Originalmente titulada "Get It On", esta canción pasó a llamarse "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" para evitar confusiones con la canción de Chase.

La canción presenta un riff clásico de Bolan, fuertemente inspirado en "Little Queenie" de Chuck Berry . Ian McDonald tocaba el saxofón (tres veces) y Rick Wakeman tocaba el piano; estaba desesperado por dinero, por lo que Bolan y Visconti crearon una parte sencilla para él. A menudo se piensa que Elton John tocaba el piano, pero simplemente lo hizo para el video musical.

Líricamente, obviamente se trata de SEXOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Irónicamente, el álbum (y mucho menos la canción) no incluye un gong.
