Flipside: FRIED CHICKEN AND MACARONI – Here’s another really great uncharted uptempo song from my collection. The Fascinators hailed from Brooklyn New York. Group members were Anthony Passalacqua (lead), Nick Trivatto (tenor), Ed Wheeler (tenor), Angelo LaGrecca (baritone) and George Cernacek (bass).

In the late 1950’s, Capitol Records was a label that, with a few exceptions, was not releasing much doowop or Rock ‘n’ Roll. (Among the exceptions were Gene Vincent and The Five Keys.) The Fascinators’ manager, Jim Fererri, had a connection with Capitoal Records, so that got them in the door.

The Fascinators’ first recording on Capitol was “CHAPEL BELLS”/“I WONDER WHO” (Capital #4053) 1958 and followed that up with their second release “COME TO PARADISE/“WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE” (Capital #4137) 1959. Following those recordings was “OH ROSE MARIE” which did have some popularity locally, but as with the other records, did not have any real commercial success. This led to the group disbanding.

The only member to continue recording was the lead, Anthony (Tony) Passalacqua who changed his name a few times for different groups and record labels. He joined The Twilights and recorded as “Tony Richards and The Twilights” (Colpix) and recorded “Shout My Name” as a solo artist. Tony went on to record as “Tony Mitchell” for Canadian American –“A Million Drums” (backed by The Angels just before their “My Boyfriend’s Back” was released).
