Description

In 1997, Disney sparked a notable controversy in the music industry when they replaced LeAnn Rimes with Trisha Yearwood for the song "How Do I Live" on the Con Air soundtrack. Initially, songwriter Diane Warren wrote the song with the then-14-year-old Rimes in mind, and she recorded a pop-leaning version. However, Disney executives, deeming Rimes’ rendition too youthful and pop-oriented for the film’s mature, emotional tone, opted for Yearwood’s more traditional country version instead. Both artists released their versions on the same day, May 23, 1997, leading to a media-fueled “feud” and a historic Grammy nomination for both in the same category. While Yearwood’s version was featured in the film and won the Grammy, Rimes’ version achieved massive commercial success, spending a record-breaking 69 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100
