This song expresses a profound sense of hopelessness, and grief that follows the permanent departure of a loved one. While the poem is not particularly long, the repetition of lines such as "The traveler has left" and "The train has left us behind" in the song vividly conveys the poet's deep grief, disbelief, and after a while a failed attempt at acceptance.
